The personal identity of Jeong Chang-sung, a 31-year-old Chinese university lecturer arrested for murdering a Chinese female international student and mutilating and abandoning her body, was disclosed today.
Previously, the Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency held a deliberation committee yesterday afternoon regarding the suspect, Jeong Chang-sung, in the murder of the Chinese female international student in Gyeongsan, deciding to release his name, age, and mugshot.
The deliberation committee stated that it voted for the public disclosure of his identity by comprehensively considering the brutality of the crime and the severity of the damage, the securing of sufficient evidence, and the public interest such as crime prevention.
Jeong Chang-sung's identity will be posted on the Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency website for 30 days starting from 9:00 AM today through the 30th.
Jeong, who is Chinese, was arrested on charges of murdering a 25-year-old Chinese female international student, surnamed A, in his studio apartment in Hayang-eup, Gyeongsan, in the early hours of the 20th, mutilating her body, and abandoning it in areas such as Gyeongju, North Gyeongsang Province, and Gunpo, Gyeonggi Province.
Jeong is also facing charges of filing a false missing person report with the police to disrupt the investigation, traveling to Dongdaegu Station disguised in women's clothing, and turning off the victim's mobile phone.
The police have applied five charges against Jeong, including murder, damage and abandonment of a corpse, and obstruction of official duties by fraudulent means.
Initially, the police planned to deploy a profiler to conduct a psychopathic checklist assessment, but it was not carried out as he refused.
The police plan to re-attempt the psychopathic checklist assessment to figure out the exact details of the crime and forward Jeong to the prosecution before the 5th of next month.
