The Jeeseok Advertising Agency carried out a public service advertising campaign utilizing CCTV cameras in the areas of Hallim-eup, Jeju City, and the Jeju Seobu Police Station last Saturday.
The advertisement features an image of a citizen looking beyond a CCTV camera, accompanied by the phrase, "Greater power requires greater checks. The public is watching."
In particular, a mock CCTV model was installed right in front of the Jeju Seobu Police Station, positioned as if the camera were staring directly at the police station.
While it lacks actual recording capabilities, the installation reverses the gaze of CCTV cameras that traditionally watched citizens, intending to convey that citizens are now watching the role and responsibility of the police.
The advertising agency explained that the campaign was planned to satirize the loopholes in the system and the issues of accountability exposed during the response process to a missing person case, rather than targeting individual police officers.
