Actor Hayoung (An Ha-young, 33), whose great-grandfather Ahn Sang-ho has been engulfed in online allegations of pro-Japanese activities, is stepping down from the new season of her upcoming project, "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call".
Netflix announced today (the 1st), "Respecting the actor's position, Hayoung has decided not to appear in the sequel to 'The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call'."
The Netflix series "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call" is a medical drama depicting the exhilarating escapades of a genius doctor who saves lives with a single scalpel.
Season 1 was released last year and received widespread love from domestic and international viewers.
In the work, Hayoung made her face known by playing Cheon Jang-mi, a nurse on the severe trauma team, and was scheduled to appear in the sequel alongside Joo Ji-hoon, Choo Young Woo, and others.
However, after Hayoung revealed on the KBS 2TV variety show "Rooftop Room Problems" broadcast last month that she comes from a four-generation family of doctors, it became known that her great-grandfather was Ahn Sang-ho (1872–1927), who worked as a doctor during the Japanese colonial period, sparking online allegations of pro-Japanese activities regarding his actions at the time.
Later, Hayoung apologized, saying, "While personally searching for related materials, I learned of my great-grandfather's pro-Japanese actions. I reflect on having lightly mentioned my family history without properly knowing the history of our country, which bears the painful period of the Japanese colonial era," adding, "I take that wrongdoing heavily and sincerely apologize as a descendant."
Nevertheless, demands poured in for her to step down from the SBS drama "Seungsan Itseumnida" (tentative title), for which she has finished filming most of her leading roles, as well as seasons 2 and 3 of her upcoming project "The Trauma Code: Heroes on Call".
