People Power Party Leader Chang Dong-hyuk urged Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae regarding Cheong Wa Dae rejecting his nomination for a Supreme Court justice candidate and effectively demanding a re-nomination, stating, "He must resolutely reject this unconstitutional demand for re-nomination and declare the resumption of Lee Jae-myung's trial."
During the Supreme Council meeting held at the National Assembly on the morning of the 31st, Leader Chang claimed, "That is the constitutional duty of the Chief Justice demanded by the people," adding, "The judge President Lee is clinging to is the very person who acquitted Kim Man-bae in the Daejang-dong case. Ultimately, he is trying to fill the Supreme Court with judges who will acquit him."
Leader Chang then referred to past remarks made by Democratic Party lawmakers during the previous administration arguing that a president's request for the re-nomination of a Supreme Court justice violates the separation of powers. Pointing out that "the Democratic Party, which used to say that, has now completely changed its tune," he criticized them by asking, "Isn't it shameless to call it constitutional when you do it, but unconstitutional when others do?"
