Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC), delivered a warning message on the 27th (local time) that Iran would retaliate against acts of aggression by the United States during a meeting with visiting Qatari Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, whose country is acting as a mediator.
According to state broadcaster IRIB, Rezaei told Prime Minister Al Thani, "We do not trust the United States, and they have betrayed diplomacy and negotiations on multiple occasions."
He raised his voice, warning, "Should the United States commit any act of aggression against Iran, we will inflict a disaster that will go down in history on America's military and economic interests."
Regarding the issue of the Strait of Hormuz, which Iran has blockaded, he emphasized, "Only when the United States takes concrete steps to fulfill Iran's conditions first will Iran also take measures to reopen the Strait of Hormuz."
Secretary Rezaei noted that "Iran has helped Qatar through difficult and hard times," emphasizing the special friendship and brotherhood between the two nations. Prime Minister Al Thani responded, "I express my deep gratitude for the support extended by the Islamic Republic of Iran during difficult times and for our fraternal relations."
Prime Minister Al Thani added, "We have never doubted our cooperation with Iran," and "Amid the current sensitive regional situation, we always aspire to continue cooperating with Iran based on a sense of responsibility."
Amid the de facto suspension of end-of-war negotiations between the United States and Iran, Prime Minister Al Thani visited Iran on that day to reopen dialogue channels between the two sides, and also held talks with Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, speaker of the Iranian parliament and head of Iran's negotiation team, as well as Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
