President Lee Jae-myung will preside over an emergency inspection meeting to check for any casualties among South Korean citizens following massive floods and landslides near the border between Nepal and China's Tibet.
Kang Yu-jung, senior presidential spokesperson, announced that President Lee postponed the scheduled meeting of senior secretaries and advisors at the presidential office today (August 27) to lead the emergency inspection meeting regarding the floods in Nepal.
Additionally, a scheduled invitation luncheon with lawmakers from the Democratic Party of Korea, which was set for tomorrow (August 28), has also been postponed.
Senior Spokesperson Kang explained, "This decision was made considering that our utmost efforts are currently focused on ensuring the safety of South Korean citizens."
A massive flood occurred in the Himalayan mountainous region of north-central Nepal, near the Chinese border, leaving 100 people dead and about 480 missing, including roughly 390 foreigners.
Currently, nine South Koreans have lost contact, while another ten South Koreans who were briefly isolated have been confirmed to be safe.
