Kylian Mbappe (Real Madrid), who shined as the La Liga top scorer last season, led his team to a resounding victory by scoring the season's first hat-trick against Real Sociedad in the second round.
Real Madrid secured a 4-1 win over Real Sociedad, powered by Mbappe's one-man hat-trick show in their La Liga Round 2 home match held today (the 27th) at the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid, Spain.
With two consecutive wins to open the season, Real Madrid (6 points, goal difference +4) claimed the top spot, ahead of Sevilla and Real Betis (both with 6 points) on goal difference.
In addition, manager Jose Mourinho, the renowned tactician who took the helm of Real Madrid this season, received applause from fans after securing a resounding victory in his home return match 13 years later.
Real Madrid took the lead in the 40th minute of the first half when Mbappe received a forward pass from Federico Valverde, secured space with a clever touch, and fired a left-footed shot to open the scoring.
It was Mbappe's first goal of the season.
However, Real Sociedad struck back four minutes later as Luka Sucic scored the equalizer to level the match.
Ending the first half tied 1-1, Real Madrid regained the lead 15 minutes into the second half when Mbappe exchanged passes with Jude Bellingham in the penalty area and fired a right-footed shot from the left side of the box to make it 2-1.
Real Madrid firmly took control of the match in the 23rd minute of the second half when Vinicius scored the clincher.
In the 35th minute of the second half, Mbappe completed his hat-trick by receiving a pass from Vinicius and chipping the ball slightly over the goalkeeper from the left side of the box, putting the finishing touch on the team's 4-1 victory.
Mbappe became the first player to score a hat-trick in La Liga this season and reached his 100th career attacking contribution (89 goals, 11 assists) in his 105th appearance wearing the Real Madrid jersey.
