Floods in Nepal have left several South Koreans out of contact.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, eight South Korean employees from Korea South-East Power and Doosan Enerbility who were building a hydroelectric power plant in the Rasuwa district of Nepal lost contact due to floods that occurred there today (August 26) local time.
The Nepali government has currently dispatched a rescue team consisting of the army and police to the affected area to conduct search and rescue operations.
Another 10 South Koreans affiliated with Doosan Enerbility are stranded locally and awaiting rescue, and the Nepali government has sent a helicopter to rescue them.
Immediately upon learning of the incident, the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Nepal notified the Nepali government of the eight unreachable South Koreans, requested prompt and active search and rescue operations, and dispatched a consul to the site.
The government has established a Countermeasures Headquarters for the Protection of Overseas Koreans headed by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, and following President Lee Jae-myung's directive to make an all-out response to ensure the safety of citizens, a joint government rapid response team consisting of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National Fire Agency, and the Korean National Police Agency will be dispatched to the site in the shortest possible time, the ministry stated.
