Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, a member of the People Power Party, and independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon shake hands with smiles.
They were attending a National Assembly seminar organized by People Power Party lawmakers in the format of a study group.
Lawmaker Kim Gi-hyeon, the host of the seminar, indirectly criticized the "party-member-centered party theory" advocated by People Power Party Leader Jang Dong-hyeon.
[Kim Gi-hyeon / People Power Party Lawmaker: I also think that we might need to shift the axis slightly from an excessive focus on party members to focusing more on the public....]
Mayor Oh and Lawmaker Han sharpened their criticism, calling the party's disciplinary decision against four People Power Party lawmakers and Leader Jang's push to replace local party chapter heads as "low-level politics" and "privatization of the party."
[Oh Se-hoon / Seoul Mayor: Ethics committee politics is the lowest form of politics. I hope we can return to the original stance of an opposition party that keeps the mismanaged administration in check (through dialogue and integration)....]
[Han Dong-hoon / Independent Lawmaker: The party has regressed, and it is heading down the path of party privatization. I find it deeply regrettable that we cannot properly fulfill our mission as conservatives.]
In response to the joint offensive by Mayor Oh and Lawmaker Han, an aide close to Leader Jang fired back, saying, "While talking about practicing addition politics, criticizing the party leader like a barrage of condemnation is the epitome of subtraction politics."
Leader Jang is known to reveal plans to further solidify his long-championed "party-member-centered stance" during his press conference today marking his first anniversary in office.
Amidst projections that internal party conflict will escalate over support for or opposition to Leader Jang's stance, attention is also focused on what kind of message former President Park Geun-hye will deliver, as she is scheduled to attend the People Power Party retreat tomorrow.
