The man, in his 50s and surnamed A, called 112 himself last Friday afternoon, threatening to jump from the rooftop railing of a building in Uijeongbu.
Police rushed to the scene upon receiving the report and began persuading him, and Mr. A came down from the railing on his own after about five hours.
During this process, nearby roads were even blocked, causing disruptions to evening rush-hour traffic.
However, the reason Mr. A caused this disturbance turned out to be, absurdly enough, due to his dissatisfaction with a fine for public urination that he was issued that morning.
It was investigated that Mr. A was heavily intoxicated at the time and even swore when he called 112.
Police have applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A on charges of obstruction of official duties.
It was also reported that he had a history of staging similar suicide threats in the past.
