▲ Police resume intensive search for a missing person after three months
A police officer who falsely closed the case of a woman in her 30s who went missing in Jeju has been emergency arrested after it was discovered that he had allegedly closed another missing person case under false pretenses.
The Jeju Provincial Police Agency announced that at around 3:30 PM today (August 22), they emergency arrested Police Officer A, assigned to the Jeju Seobu Police Station, at an unspecified location in Jeju City on charges of dereliction of duty, falsification of official electronic records and uttering of such records, and obstruction of official duties by fraudulent means.
Police stated that yesterday they confirmed that another missing person case, which Officer A had marked as resolved on July 2, was falsely closed in the same manner as the case of Jang Mi-ran.
Previously, Officer A was accused of arbitrarily closing the case of Jang Mi-ran, whose disappearance was reported in Jeju last May.
He is also accused of having deleted records related to Jang's disappearance entered into the internal police missing persons profiling system during this process.
