Iran's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned fresh U.S. sanctions targeting the country as economic terrorism and a crime against humanity.
In a statement issued on August 20, the ministry fiercely criticized the move, stating, "The U.S. government has announced the imposition of extensive economic and trade sanctions targeting the Iranian people." It added, "This is a sign of the hostility shown by U.S. policymakers toward the Iranian people over the past 73 years, and a measure that confirms the anti-human, illegal, and hegemony-driven nature of the U.S. government."
The statement repeatedly emphasized, "America's economic sanctions against Iran, which target the fundamental human rights of all Iranian citizens, unquestionably amount to economic terrorism and a crime against humanity."
It further raised its voice, asserting, "Those who order and enforce such sanctions deserve to be prosecuted and punished for committing such blatant crimes."
The foreign ministry pointed out that this latest measure comes as the war against Iran waged by the United States and Israel over the past year and a half has ended in failure.
Dismissing the move, the statement noted, "Carried out after the failure of their wicked goals to force the Iranian people to surrender to illegal and anti-human ambitions, these sanctions will ultimately do nothing more than add to the list of crimes committed by the United States against Iran."
Reaffirming its resolve to resist the United States, the ministry concluded, "These sanctions will surely fail to have any impact on the steadfast determination of the Iranian people to defend their independence, dignity, and national sovereignty."
