It has been confirmed that police have yet to identify a man who has repeatedly fled after sexually harassing students and others in the nude near the Sinchon campus of Yonsei University over the past two months.
The Seoul Seodaemun Police Station announced today (August 20) that they are tracking down a man facing charges of forcible indecency and public obscenity.
The suspect is accused of sexually harassing a student at around 10:10 PM yesterday near the dormitory at Yonsei University's Sinchon campus in Seodaemun-gu.
At the time, the suspect, referred to as A, allegedly touched the victim's body and committed sexual harassment while completely naked and wearing a black mask, before fleeing.
According to police, a similar incident occurred on June 12 when a naked man wearing a mask forcibly harassed a passerby on the Ansan Jarak-gil walking trail. On July 21, a man dressed in the same manner was also reported by a passerby after hiding in the bushes near the Ansan Jarak-gil walking trail.
Ansan Jarak-gil is a circular forest trail connected to Yonsei University's Sinchon campus.
Police believe that the previous two cases and yesterday's sexual harassment incident were all committed by the same man.
While securing and analyzing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from near the Ansan walking trail and hiking paths, police are also analyzing footage showing suspect A submitted by Yonsei University regarding yesterday's incident.
As police have failed to identify the suspect for over two months since the first incident occurred, anxiety among nearby residents and Yonsei University students is growing.
A police official stated, "Analyzing the CCTV footage is taking a significant amount of time," adding, "We are continuing our investigation to identify the suspect through CCTV tracking and DNA analysis."
Meanwhile, Yonsei University drew a line by stating that the location of the latest incident was closer to the outside of the campus rather than inside.
A Yonsei University official explained, "Although the incident did not take place inside the school, the target of the crime was a student, so we are discussing relevant measures."
