▲ The electronic board at the dealing room of the Hana Bank headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, displays the KOSPI as well as the share prices of SK Hynix and Samsung Electronics on the 20th.
As the KOSPI surged, a program buy order temporary suspension, known as a buy sidecar, was triggered.
The Korea Exchange temporarily suspended the effectiveness of program buy orders for five minutes in the securities market at 9:57:10 AM today (the 20th) due to fluctuations in the KOSPI 200 futures index.
At the time of the trigger, the KOSPI 200 futures index stood at 1,068.15, up 51.90 points or 5.10% from the previous day's close.
A KOSPI buy sidecar is triggered when the price of KOSPI 200 futures rises by 5% or more from the base price and that state persists for one minute.
The KOSPI is rallying on the back of strong semiconductor shares.
As of 9:59 AM, Samsung Electronics surged 6.87%, and SK Hynix jumped 11.33%.
At the same time, the KOSPI was up 325.48 points, or 5.03%, at 6,796.65, while the KOSDAQ rose 16.73 points, or 2.03%, to 841.19.
