US President Donald Trump stated on the 19th local time that he will meet with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un within the year.
Speaking to reporters at the White House that day, when asked whether he expects to meet with Kim within the year, President Trump replied, "Yes, I will be."
When asked if he had exchanged letters with Chairman Kim, President Trump said, "I can't tell you that," while adding, "But I get along well with him. The fact that I get along well with him is a good thing, not a bad thing."
He then stated, "He has 57 very powerful nuclear weapons."
President Trump went on to criticize the preceding Joe Biden administration, saying, "That should never have been allowed to happen in the first place. If I had been president, I never would have allowed it," but emphasized, "However, since he already has those weapons, I get along very well with him."
President Trump said, "We cannot let Iran get nuclear weapons," while adding, "I know Kim Jong-un very well, and he will be fine."
He also added, "As long as there is a smart president (in the US), he (Kim) will be fine. If you have a stupid president, maybe he won't be quite as fine."
