▲ Crackdown on illegal activities in valley and stream recreation areas
The Gyeonggi Province Special Judicial Police announced on the 19th that they caught 23 violations across 19 locations following a targeted crackdown on illegal operations at 279 recreation areas, including valleys and streams across the province, ahead of the summer vacation season.
Conducted from the 20th to the 31st of last month, the crackdown revealed violations including 3 cases of unauthorized occupation of streams, 13 cases of operating unregistered restaurants and failing to report changes to business space areas, 2 cases of operating unregistered amusement businesses, and 5 cases of installing unauthorized structures and altering landforms within development-restricted areas.
For instance, Business A was caught using a temporary building and flat-floor platforms (<em>pyeongsang</em>) installed on stream land without permission from the competent authority to run a restaurant business.
Investigations showed that Business B operated unauthorized water play facilities such as water slides and swimming pools, while Business C installed unauthorized tents and flat-floor platforms in a development-restricted area.
Under the River Act, individuals who occupy stream areas without permission, install structures, or obstruct or alter the flow of streams can face up to 2 years in prison or fines of up to 20 million won.
Gyeonggi Province plans to handle the uncovered violations in accordance with relevant laws and continue follow-up management to prevent recurrence.
