"Be pen pals with a female inmate." What does this mean?
It means exactly what it sounds like.
Controversy is growing as a company has emerged that connects female inmates detained in correctional facilities, such as prisons, as pen pal partners.
Recently online, a so-called "correctional facility list" organizing the information of individuals presumed to be female inmates has been spreading.
The list is packed with details such as names, correctional facilities, birth years, heights, weights, and personalities.
At the top, specific pricing conditions are also presented: "Correctional pen pal matching costs 70,000 won per person, with three letters guaranteed."
It appears that a company handling errands such as delivering items to inmates or performing various tasks receives personal information from women, introduces and connects them with men, and collects matchmaking fees.
The company even instructed applicants to check a separate box on the application form if they wished to exchange adult-oriented (rated 19+) letters.
Netizens expressed outrage, saying, "Is it normal to make money off the personal info of inmates?" and "It is absurd to even induce adult-rated pen pals," while demanding strict management and supervision by correctional authorities.
