A legal body to investigate and reclaim the assets of pro-Japanese anti-national collaborators is being revived after 16 years. The tracking targets even include assets already disposed of by the descendants of pro-Japanese collaborators.

The 1st Pro-Japanese Property Investigation Committee was launched in 2006 during the Roh Moo-hyun administration and operated for four years.
It reclaimed 237.3 billion won in assets from 168 pro-Japanese collaborators.
Sixteen years have passed, and the government decided in June to enact a special law to re-establish a legal body to track pro-Japanese assets.

The 2nd Pro-Japanese Property Investigation Committee, to be launched through this special law, will re-investigate and deliberate on matters that were previously unresolved.
It will also examine whether domestic land remaining under Japanese names constitutes pro-Japanese assets.
If necessary, it can summon targets to take statements and apply to the court for provisional attachment orders on suspicious assets.
Profits related to assets already disposed of by the descendants of pro-Japanese collaborators will also be subject to reclamation, and a reward regulation has been newly established for individuals who report pro-Japanese assets or provide important related information.
Minister of Justice Sungho stated, "We must build a righteous nation where shares unfairly gained by selling out the country are returned to their proper place," adding that at least over 32.5 billion won in pro-Japanese assets can be reclaimed.
The pro-Japanese assets reclaimed in this manner will be prioritized for independence activists.
Two months ago, the government launched an establishment preparation team consisting of 11 personnel from relevant ministries, including the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, to formulate an investigation plan.
The 2nd Pro-Japanese Property Investigation Committee, which will be composed of nine members in the future, is scheduled to officially launch in December and operate for a maximum of five years.
