The prosecution has demanded a prison sentence for a man in his 40s who was put on trial on charges of illegally filming female employees by installing micro-cameras in workplace restrooms and other locations.
Jeju District Court Judge Kim Hee-jin, presiding over Criminal Division 3, held the first and final hearing today (August 14) for A, a man in his 40s who was indicted without detention on charges including violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, Etc. of Sexual Crimes (filming using cameras, etc.).
The prosecution requested the court to sentence A to three years in prison, taking into consideration the seriousness of illegal filming crimes, the victims' strong desire for severe punishment, and the long duration of the offenses.
A was sent to trial on charges of illegally filming two victims by installing micro-cameras under a female employee's desk between May and July 2024, and in a women's restroom around July of last year.
It was reported that the company where A worked is operated by A's father as its chief executive.
A's crimes came to light after a victim discovered a camera at the scene and reported it.
It is reported that A turned himself in to the police once the incident surfaced.
A's legal representative admitted to all the charges in the indictment.
A's defense attorney pleaded for leniency, stating, "The defendant feels a deep sense of guilt toward the victims and has the willingness to provide financial compensation for victim recovery, though an agreement has not been reached. Please consider that he is a first-time offender and vows never to commit the same mistake again."
A also stated, "As a workplace superior, I shattered trust and committed a serious crime. There is no room for excuse. I will live the rest of my life in atonement."
The sentencing hearing for A is scheduled to take place on September 16.
