Emergency safety measures were taken by fire authorities after a gas cylinder washed ashore at a beach in Jeju.
According to the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Fire Safety Headquarters, a report was received at 11:52 AM on the 13th stating that a gas cylinder had washed ashore at Woljeong Beach in Gujwa-eup, Jeju.
Fire authorities immediately shared the information with relevant agencies, dispatched personnel to the scene, and restricted access around the gas cylinder.
Subsequently, the hazardous materials response unit of the 119 Special Response Unit analyzed the gas inside the cylinder and confirmed it to be acetylene.
Acetylene is a flammable gas used for metal welding and cutting operations, carrying a risk of fire or explosion when exposed to sparks or heat.
It was confirmed that Chinese characters were written on the exterior of the gas cylinder.
The Coast Guard is investigating the exact circumstances.
