French professional football powerhouse Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has been allocated an additional locker room after raising complaints about the cramped facilities ahead of the UEFA Super Cup.
British broadcaster BBC reported today (August 12) that "Champions League winners PSG expressed dissatisfaction with the locker room facilities at Red Bull Arena in Salzburg, Austria, ahead of their Super Cup clash against Europa League winners Aston Villa (England)."
With Aston Villa, led by manager Unai Emery, assigned the home locker room for this Super Cup matchup, Luis Enrique's PSG was naturally given the away team's locker room.
However, PSG club officials raised complaints to UEFA during the pre-match meeting, arguing that the away locker room was too narrow.
They claimed that as the defending champions who lifted the Super Cup trophy last year after defeating Tottenham on penalties, they deserved a space of equal size to the one allocated to Aston Villa.
Ultimately, UEFA resolved the dispute by assigning an extra locker room, typically used by match officials, to PSG, providing them with a space comparable in scale to Aston Villa's.
PSG, who reached the summit of the Champions League by defeating Arsenal last May, are aiming for back-to-back titles in the competition.
In response, Aston Villa broke a 30-year trophy drought by defeating Freiburg in the Europa League final last season, stepping onto the Super Cup stage for the first time in 44 years since 1982.
The match between the two teams kicks off at 4:00 AM on August 13.
