Prosecutors have demanded a fine of 10 million won for an individual identified as A, who was put on trial for stalking actor Hwang Jung-min.
During the sentencing hearing held on the afternoon of the 11th at the Goyang Branch of the Uijeongbu District Court, presided over by Judge 4 for Criminal Affairs, prosecutors asked the court to sentence A to a 10 million won fine and an order to complete a treatment program, taking into consideration the duration of the crime, the frequency of contact, and the victim's appeal for strict punishment.
At the hearing, prosecutors requested the court to close the proceedings to the public, citing concerns that secondary victimization of the victim could occur. However, the court dismissed the request, citing the principle of open trials, and proceeded with an open session.
Previously, Hwang Jung-min filed a complaint against A in August of last year on charges including violation of the Act on Punishment of Stalking Crimes, and the court issued a summary order of a 3 million won fine against A in February of this year. A objected to this and requested a formal trial, and the case is currently being reviewed in the first-instance trial.
During the closing argument, A's legal representative maintained that A was not guilty of the stalking charges. The attorney argued that the contact between the two parties was not one-sided.
In a final statement, A also acknowledged fault for some actions but repeatedly claimed that the situation did not amount to one-sided stalking. A emphasized, "I do not think everything I did was right. I believe there are parts where I did things I should not have done," while adding, "However, being called a stalker who chased one person one-sidedly for two years is a completely different story." A also appealed, "Please look at who contacted first and what promises were made between us. This is not just a matter of punishment, and I cannot bear the thought of all these events becoming something that was carried out unilaterally by just one person."
The first-instance sentencing for A will take place at 10:00 AM on the 8th of next month.
