A man in his 60s has been arrested by police after opening the door of a taxi waiting at a traffic light and biting the driver's body.
The Seoul Jungnang Police Station announced today that it arrested a man in his 60s, designated as A, at the scene on charges of assault against a transport driver under the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes at around 2:40 p.m. yesterday (August 10).
A is accused of opening the front passenger door of a taxi that had stopped at a traffic light on a residential street in Mangu-dong, Jungnang-gu, Seoul, getting in, and biting the arm and chest of the driver in his 70s.
A had previously been diagnosed with schizophrenia and depression, and is reportedly stated that he heard auditory hallucinations at the time of the crime.
Police, who were dispatched following reports from nearby residents and other witnesses, apprehended A and subsequently placed him under emergency hospitalization.
