The special investigation team for the December 29 airplane disaster has launched seizures and searches at the Korea Airports Corporation, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, and the Busan Regional Office of Aviation.
Jeju Air Flight 7C2216, a Boeing 737-800 flying from Bangkok, Thailand, attempted an emergency landing on the runway at Muan International Airport at around 9:03 a.m. on December 29, 2024, and collided with a localizer, resulting in 179 deaths and 2 injuries among the 181 people on board.
The special investigation team announced that it dispatched investigators to the Korea Airports Corporation and other locations starting at 9 a.m. today (August 11) to conduct the searches and seizures.
An official from the special investigation team explained that this search and seizure operation is aimed at securing additional necessary materials related to allegations of professional negligence resulting in death and injury.
The special team reportedly undertook the search and seizure to verify suspicious aspects found during the investigation based on previously secured materials and to clarify the related facts.
In connection with the airplane disaster, police have booked 45 individuals on charges including professional negligence resulting in death and injury, and are examining the possibility of applying charges related to serious public disasters.
