Police are continuing their investigation into more than 200 suspects in connection with the blockade protest at the Jamsil vote-counting center, which began following a shortage of ballot papers during the June 3 local elections.
During a regular briefing held today (August 10), an official from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced that a total of 58 cases involving 226 people are currently under investigation regarding the protest at the Handball Gymnasium in Olympic Park, Songpa-gu.
Police explained that they have investigated a total of 122 cases involving 324 people, and have concluded investigations for 64 cases involving 98 people.
Out of nine individuals accused of obstructing the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee from entering the handball stadium (obstruction of business), six have been forwarded to the prosecution.
Additionally, two cases were closed without charges, and the remaining one is scheduled to be forwarded.
Five individuals who unauthorizedly searched the belongings of the women's youth national handball team have been sent to the prosecution.
All six individuals accused of assaulting journalists and other charges have also been forwarded.
Regarding six cases of assaulting police officers and obstructing official duties, three suspects were detained and forwarded, while five were forwarded without detention.
Out of nine cases involving the insult and defamation of police officers, two cases have been forwarded and seven remain under investigation.
Regarding online posts spreading false information, such as claims that "frontline police officers are Chinese police," requests were made to the Korea Communications Standards Commission to delete and block 387 posts, of which 244 have been blocked.
In addition, out of 101 cases involving assault, public threats, and insults among protest participants, 52 cases have been concluded and 49 remain under investigation.
