Veteran right-handed MLB pitcher Max Scherzer (42, Toronto Blue Jays) has moved up to 10th on the all-time strikeout list.
Scherzer started an away game against the Philadelphia Phillies at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, today (August 9) and recorded 4 strikeouts through the first out of the 6th inning.
By increasing his career strikeouts to 3,516, Scherzer edged past Walter Johnson (3,515) by 1 to claim 10th place in baseball history.
The all-time MLB strikeout leader is Nolan Ryan with an astounding 5,714, followed by Randy Johnson (4,875), Roger Clemens (4,672), and Steve Carlton (4,136).
Among active players, following Justin Verlander (Detroit Tigers, 266 wins, 3,554 strikeouts) who is 8th and retiring at the end of this season, Scherzer (222 wins) ranks 2nd in both career wins and strikeouts.
Scherzer, who renewed his contract with Toronto this year for one year and 3 million dollars, is also within striking distance of passing 9th-place Gaylord Perry (3,534 strikeouts) on the all-time list.
