Western Regions Swelter as Up to 100mm of Rain Expected on East Coast

While scorching heat continued in western regions today (Aug. 8), heavy downpours lashed eastern areas, easing the heatwave along the east coast.

Due to the influence of Typhoon Dolphin, which is currently heading toward China, strong easterly winds are flowing into the country, bringing heavy rain to the east coast through tomorrow.

Let us check the expected rainfall through Monday, the day after tomorrow.

Mainly focusing on the east coast of Gangwon Province and the northern east coast of North Gyeongsang Province, where heavy rain has already fallen, an additional 100mm or more of rain is expected. Meanwhile, mountainous areas of Jeju Island will see up to 70mm of continued rainfall.

Tomorrow's daytime high in Seoul is expected to reach 34°C (93°F), which is lower than today.

However, heatwaves and tropical nights will persist into next week, so residents should take precautions to protect their health.

Showers are forecast in various places again tomorrow afternoon.

They are expected to pour down heavily in inland parts of North Chungcheong and North Gyeongsang provinces, much like today.

Tomorrow's morning low in Seoul will be 26°C (79°F), meaning tropical nights will continue across most inland areas tonight. Tomorrow's daytime highs will rise to 34°C (93°F) in Gwangju and 32°C (90°F) in Daegu, accompanied by strong sunlight.

Sweltering heat is expected to persist in inland areas for the time being, and residents in Jeju should stay alert for very strong winds and high swells caused by the indirect effects of the typhoon.
