Golfer Park Min-ji, who holds the record for the most joint wins (20 wins) in the Korea Ladies Professional Golf (KLPGA) Tour, raised expectations for setting a new record by jumping to a tie for second place in the second round of the Jeju Samdasoo Masters.
Park Min-ji fired 7-under-par with eight birdies and one bogey in the second round of the tournament held at Teddy Valley Golf and Resort in Seogwipo, Jeju.
Showcasing a birdie show through the intense heat wave, Park Min-ji recorded a total of 8-under-par, placing her in a tie for second place, one stroke behind sole leader Kang Chae-yeon (9-under-par total),
Park Min-ji, who won the Sh Suhyup Bank MBN Ladies Open last May to become the third player in history to achieve 20 regular tour wins following the late Koo Ok-hee and Shin Ji-yai, will set a new record for the most wins overall with just one more victory.
Kang Chae-yeon, who has yet to win a regular tour title, cut four strokes in the second round to rise to the sole lead by one stroke at 9-under-par total, while Choi Jung-won, Moon Jung-min, Shin Da-in, and Seo Eo-jin positioned themselves in a tie for second place alongside Park Min-ji at 8-under-par total.
Seo Gyo-rim, who has secured two wins this season and trails behind Kim Min-sol (three wins) in second place in multiple wins, prize money, and grand prix points categories, followed in a tie for seventh place at 7-under-par total, and Kim Min-sol, who returned after competing in the AIG Women's Open, an LPGA Tour major tournament, last week, barely made the cut at 1-over-par total.
Defending champion Ko Ji-won, who claimed her first career victory at this tournament last year, fell short with a total of 4-over-par and missed the cut.
The tournament, which features a total purse of 1 billion won and a winner's prize of 180 million won, will run for four rounds until the day after tomorrow (Sunday).
