He has a history of pushing forward with projects that others tried to talk him out of, only to make them successful. In the early 2000s, he sparked a craze for rarely performed Mahler music in South Korea through the Seoul Arts Center's "Mahler Symphony Complete Series." While serving at the National Theater of Korea, he introduced a "season system" that yielded numerous hits. This was the era when musical fans began flocking to changgeuk (traditional Korean opera) featuring pansori singer Kim Jun-su, and works like "Hyang-yeon" and "Muk-hyang," which blended tradition with designer Jung Ku-ho's modern aesthetic, were created.
