Outrage is growing as a video circulates on social media showing what is believed to be a Russian-operated drone attacking a market merchant in Ukraine.
According to foreign media outlets including AFP on August 4 (local time), a video spread across Ukrainian social media showing a drone attacking a merchant in the southern Kherson region.
The footage captures a 52-year-old market merchant being chased by a drone.
The man can be seen running in circles around parked vehicles to confront the drone.
As the man continually hid behind a vehicle and moved out of sight, the drone circled the vehicle in pursuit.
Unable to find a clear moment to strike, the drone revved its engines with a loud roar, accelerated, and self-detonated as it rushed toward the man hiding behind the car.
The merchant reportedly survived, but suffered injuries including shrapnel wounds and a concussion.
The Kherson region was initially occupied by Russia early in the war, but was later recaptured by Ukraine and remains a frontline area.
Currently, Russian forces have retreated across the Dnipro River, which cuts through the city, and continue attacks using drones and other means.
Ukrainian authorities argued that this video serves as evidence of Russian attacks on civilians.
Russia has maintained that it has not intentionally targeted civilians since the outbreak of the war.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote on social media that day, "This barbaric war crime in Kherson must face righteous punishment from the international community."
