Professional baseball team kt wiz announced that it will hold a retirement ceremony for Hwang Jae-gyun during the 2026 KBO League home game against the Lotte Giants at Suwon kt wiz park on the 8th.
KT stated, "Hwang will hold an autograph session for 100 fans on that day before stepping onto the field to say his final goodbyes to the fans," adding, "The ceremonial first pitch, hit, and catcher duties will be performed by Hwang's family."
Starting his professional career with the Hyundai Unicorns in 2006, Hwang played for Heroes and Lotte before advancing to the Major League Baseball (MLB) with the San Francisco Giants, and later joining KT in 2017.
Serving as team captain in 2021, Hwang led KT to its first combined championship since the team's founding. He continued to deliver consistent performances, including reaching the milestone last year as the 7th player in league history to record 100 hits for 14 consecutive seasons.
Over 18 seasons in the KBO League, Hwang appeared in 2,200 games, recording a career batting average of .285 with 2,266 hits, 227 home runs, and 1,121 RBIs, before announcing his retirement last December.
