Following an accident where an employee of a food ingredient supplier was injured after falling from a height of 5 meters from a forklift due to the boss's prank, the Ministry of Employment and Labor has launched a joint occupational safety and labor planned inspection.
The Ministry announced today (August 4) that it has initiated an inspection of the food ingredient company located in Gimpo, Gyeonggi Province, to check for violations of safety and health rules and overall compliance with the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
In addition, the Ministry plans to thoroughly examine whether labor-related laws were violated regarding the workers during this inspection.
For major violations found as a result of the inspection, the Ministry plans to take immediate measures such as referring the case for judicial action and imposing fines.
Furthermore, if structural deficiencies in safety management and unreasonable organizational culture are identified, it plans to guide the improvement of overall workplace safety and organizational culture.
Labor Minister Kim Young-hoon emphasized, "This accident, caused by the employer's insensitivity to safety, is a representative case showing how fragile safety awareness has been," adding, "We will take measures without leniency for any violations."
Earlier, a worker in their 40s, identified as A, who works at a food ingredient company in Gimpo, filed a complaint with the police asking for employer B to be punished on charges of injury, stating, "While working on a forklift, boss B jokingly kept shaking the forklift, causing me to fall 5 meters down."
