Moon Jin-hee, chairman of the Korea Football Association (KFA) Referee Committee, who drew heavy criticism for inappropriate behavior—such as answering questions with one hand in his pants pocket—during a parliamentary hearing, has resigned.
The KFA announced, "Referee Committee Chairman Moon Jin-hee has submitted his letter of resignation due to personal reasons."
During a hearing held by the National Assembly's Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee regarding the KFA on the 30th of last month, Chairman Moon engaged in a verbal clash with Rebuilding Korea Party Lawmaker Kim Jaewon.
When Lawmaker Kim pointed out, "Sit up straight and answer politely. Ever since earlier, while other committee members were answering," Chairman Moon talked back with one hand tucked in his pants pocket, saying, "You get to speak, but you're telling me not to? Lower your voice a bit then."
Subsequently, when Democratic Party of Korea Lawmaker Cho Kye-won also raised objections to Moon's inappropriate words and actions, Moon responded in an agitated manner, saying, "Stay out of this," drawing widespread public outrage from the lawmakers attending the hearing.
Following Chairman Moon's resignation, the Referee Committee will operate under an acting vice chairman system until a new leadership takes office.
