"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" (hereinafter referred to as Spider-Man 4), the fourth installment in the Spider-Man movie series, has achieved box office numbers ranking second of all time for a North American opening weekend.
According to box office tracking site Box Office Mojo on the 2nd (local time), Spider-Man 4 opened across 4,487 theaters in North America over the three days starting from the 31st of last month, generating $355 million (approx. 510 billion won) in ticket sales.
This figure falls just $2 million short of the all-time record of $357 million set by "Avengers: Endgame" in 2019.
Consequently, Spider-Man 4 surpassed its predecessor from the same series released in 2021, "Spider-Man: No Way Home" ($260 million), to claim the number two spot.
Considering that Spider-Man's production budget excluding marketing costs is $225 million, it has essentially recovered its entire production budget through its North American opening weekend ticket sales alone.
Spider-Man 4 also grossed $572 million in regions outside of North America, bringing its worldwide box office total to $927 million (approx. 1.33 trillion won).
In South Korea, it is also driving audience turnout at the fastest pace among films released this year, drawing over 3 million viewers within just five days of its release.
The film has captivated both critics and the general public, scoring a 90 percent approval rating from critics and 98 percent from general audiences on the movie review site Rotten Tomatoes, and receiving an "A" grade in CinemaScore exit polls.
Spider-Man 4 depicts Peter Parker, played by Tom Holland, facing a new threat while isolated in a situation where the entire world has forgotten that he is Spider-Man.
