It has been confirmed that a man in his 40s has been apprehended by police on suspicion of attacking and fleeing from a foreign woman with a weapon in downtown Seoul during the early morning hours when pedestrian traffic was sparse.
According to SBS reporting, a report was received at around 1:00 AM today (August 2) stating that a foreign woman in her 50s had been stabbed near Sangwangsimni Station in Seongdong-gu, Seoul.
The woman, who suffered injuries to her neck and other areas, was reportedly transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The male assailant fled immediately after the crime, but police, who launched a pursuit, urgently arrested a man in his 40s, identified as A, on charges of attempted murder at an undisclosed location in Seoul this afternoon.
According to the police investigation, it was found that man A and the victim did not know each other at all.
A police official stated, "Immediately after the incident occurred, we mobilized all available personnel to track closed-circuit television (CCTV) movements, which allowed us to swiftly apprehend the suspect."
Police plan to investigate the exact motive behind the crime and apply for an arrest warrant for man A.
