The Kium Heroes defeated the SSG Landers, propelled by a pair of home runs.
Kium secured a 5-3 victory against SSG in their home game of the 2026 Shinhan SOL Bank KBO League at Gocheok SkyDome today (August 2), fueled by home runs from Matt Davidson and Kim Woong-bin.
Avenging their loss from the previous day, 10th-place Kium narrowed the gap with 9th-place SSG to 1.5 games.
SSG had a strong start.
In the top of the first inning, SSG's leadoff hitter Jung Jun-jae drew a walk and Park Seong-han hit a single to right field, creating a bases-loaded situation with no outs. Kim Jae-hwan then hit a sacrifice fly to score the opening run.
In the bottom of the third inning with two outs and the bases loaded, Kium's An Chi-hong drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 1-1, followed by Kim Woong-bin hitting a two-run single to left field to turn the game around at 3-1.
SSG clawed a run back in the top of the fifth inning with two outs and the bases loaded when Han Yu-sum drew a walk, and then tied the game 3-3 in the top of the sixth inning with an RBI single by Park Seong-han.
The unpredictable game was decided in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Kium's leadoff hitter Davidson hit a solo home run over the left-field fence off SSG's fourth pitcher, Noh Kyung-eun, putting Kium ahead 4-3.
After one out, Kim Woong-bin launched a solo home run to right field, extending the lead to two runs.
Having seized the momentum, Kium brought in Won Jong-hyun in the top of the eighth inning and Yuto Kanakubo in the top of the ninth to seal the team's victory.
Kim Woong-bin led the offense with 2 hits in 2 at-bats, 2 walks, and 3 RBIs.
SSG starting pitcher Pedro Avila struck out 8 batters through four innings, but was pulled after allowing 3 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks.
Kium starting pitcher Jeon Jun-pyo pitched 4 and 2/3 innings, allowing 2 runs with 4 hits, 4 walks, and 4 strikeouts before leaving the mound.
