Today (August 2), daytime temperatures in Daegu and the Gyeongbuk region soared near 40°C (104°F).
As of 1:30 PM, the highest daytime temperature recorded was 39.8°C (104°F) in Gyeongju.
This is the highest temperature recorded within the Daegu and Gyeongbuk regions.
In addition, temperatures in some areas such as Hoengseong in Gyeongju and Gigye in Pohang approached 40°C (104°F), registering at 39.7°C (103°F).
As the intense heat continues, heatwave major warnings have been successively issued for four areas.
The affected areas are Gyeongsan in Gyeongbuk, north-central Gyeongju, central Daegu, and southern Dalseong.
An official from the Daegu Regional Meteorological Administration expressed concern, stating, "Temperatures could rise further as the afternoon progresses."
