▲ Brazil to Play Friendly Matches Against Australia and India
The Brazil national football team, known as the Samba Squad, which exited the 2026 North and Central America World Cup in the round of 16, will play away friendly matches against Australia and India during the FIFA A-match windows in September and October.
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced yesterday (local time, July 30) that "the Brazil national team will visit Australia and India to face the two countries between September 21 and October 6, during the first FIFA A-match window following the North and Central America World Cup."
It added, "Through this, we plan to begin new preparations and evaluate players toward the 2028 Copa América and the 2030 FIFA World Cup."
According to the Brazilian Confederation, the Brazil national team, led by manager Carlo Ancelotti of Italy, will first play a two-match series against Australia.
Brazil will play its first match against Australia on September 25 at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville, Australia, and face them once again four days later on September 29 at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane.
This will be the first match between Brazil and Australia in about nine years since their friendly match held in Melbourne, Australia, in June 2017, which Brazil won 4-0.
To date, the two teams have faced each other eight times in total, with Brazil holding a definitive advantage with 6 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss.
After the matches against Australia, the Brazil national team will head to India.
They will then face India for the first time ever on October 3 at Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.
The All India Football Federation (AIFF) also shared the news of hosting the friendly match against Brazil that day, adding significance by stating, "This match will be the highest-ranked team India has ever faced since the FIFA world rankings were introduced in 1992."
Brazil is currently ranked 5th in the FIFA rankings.
India is ranked 138th.
Manager Ancelotti stated through the Brazilian Confederation, "Through these three friendly matches, we will start a new cycle and prepare for the 2028 Copa América and the 2030 World Cup," adding, "In particular, we plan to call up young players to the national team and give them the opportunity to showcase their talent over the coming years."
Brazil, the most successful country in World Cup history with 5 titles, halted its bid to reclaim the trophy in this North and Central America tournament after losing 1-2 to Norway in the round of 16.
