Broadcaster Kim Sun-tae has announced his voluntary departure from a program, taking responsibility for the controversy surrounding the girl group RESCENE and their use of the expression "museopno." This comes just a day after he apologized for the controversy that erupted on the 29th.ING
Kim uploaded a video to his YouTube channel on the 31st, saying, "I suppose I had a bit of ambition. I wanted to try being a sole MC on a terrestrial broadcast, but in reality, it wasn't easy."
He explained the background behind his decision to step down voluntarily, stating, "It's not that I lack competence or that I have an agency backing me up. Because I am on my own, I felt that things weren't entirely smooth overall, and to be honest, I also faced difficulties in communication with the production team." He added, "I felt a great deal of inadequacy in leading a broadcast as a sole MC."
He also added, "Making the decision to step down voluntarily is actually not easy. There are contracts, and a broadcasting station is a heavy entity. They trusted me and gave me a regular programming slot, but I simply didn't have the capability for it."
Kim shared that early the previous morning, he spoke with his agency's representative to apologize directly, and that he had also apologized to the RESCENE members. He said, "I was told that before I even reached out, the members were actually worried about me," adding, "Through this incident, I've had a chance to reflect on myself. I've had many thoughts about whether I truly lost my initial mindset."
Previously, on the 29th, a pre-release video for KBS's "Donseongtae Success Era" was uploaded to the YouTube channel "KBS Original."
In the video, Kim drew criticism by directly bringing up RESCENE member WONI's past "museopno" controversy, asking her, "Wasn't there anyone who asked if this might be viral marketing?" Alongside criticism for reviving a controversy that had already been put to rest, the backlash grew after it was revealed that the video's hashtags included the names of numerous political and business figures unrelated to RESCENE. The video was set to private about four hours after its release.
On the 30th, Kim uploaded a video titled "I'm Sorry," stating, "I first saw the pre-release video around 8:40 yesterday," and adding, "As soon as I recognized that a problem had occurred, I asked the production team to delete the video."
