Police Forward Woman in Her 30s to Prosecution Without Detention for Solely Blocking Entry to Jamsil Vote-Counting Station

A woman who single-handedly blocked sports organization officials from entering their office under the pretext of guarding the vote-counting station set up at the Olympic Park Handball Gymnasium, widely known as 'Ol-darc' (a portmanteau of Olympic Park and Joan of Arc), was transferred to the prosecution today (July 31).

The Seoul Songpa Police Station announced that it had forwarded the woman in her 30s, surnamed A, to the Seoul Dongbu District Prosecutors' Office this morning without detention on charges of obstruction of business.

The police action against the woman comes about six weeks after she was booked in mid-June.

A is accused of blocking entry to the sports organization on June 16, defying an agreement reached between People Power Party Representative Chang Dong-hyeok and other protest participants.

At the time, wrapped in an American flag, she ignored the persuasion of Representative Chang, Korean Sport & Olympic Committee President Yoo Seung-min, and others, holding onto the door by herself and holding out for about two hours.

Police attempted to obtain an arrest warrant, stating that she committed a serious obstruction of business by nullifying the agreement made by a major opposition lawmaker, the sports committee president, and the police, leaving it uncertain when the blockade of the vote-counting station would be resolved. However, the court dismissed the arrest warrant on the 21st, citing no risk of evidence destruction or flight.

Released from the detention center following the warrant dismissal at the time, she appeared on her attorney's YouTube channel and said, "It made me think, if (the detention center) is this uncomfortable for me, how uncomfortable must the much more precious First Lady Kim Keon-hee have been?"

She also hosted a live broadcast for about an hour from Olympic Park via her YouTube channel on the 29th, stating, "I want to spread a positive influence."
