Former "Chungju Man" Kim Sun-tae has sparked controversy over "secondary harm" after addressing the "museobno" controversy involving WONI, the leader of the girl group RESCENE, on a variety show.
On the 29th, a video titled "Why Is My Story Coming Up in Politics?!" was released on KBS's official YouTube channel "K-BS Original."
The video was part of a new KBS web variety show hosted by Kim Sun-tae.
In the video, Kim Sun-tae asked WONI, "Could you briefly talk about the 'museobno' incident?"
Looking flustered, WONI opened up about her feelings, saying, "I was actually really shocked. Seeing it on the news overnight made it so scary."
When Kim Sun-tae asked again, "Didn't anyone say it was 'a kind of viral marketing'?" WONI responded, "You might think that way, but I was so worried that appearing on the news would negatively affect our group."
In addition, Kim Sun-tae asked WONI to say "Why is my story coming up in the political arena?" in a dialect, and included hashtags of politicians such as Lee Jae-myung and Han Dong-hoon in the video.
Immediately after the video was released, internet users voiced discomfort.
Critics pointed out that the lighthearted hosting style and production amounted to secondary harm against a cast member who had already suffered significant psychological pressure from political pressure.
Netizens reacted with comments such as, "They brought up an issue that had quieted down," and "It feels like they are exploiting her rather than giving her a chance to explain."
Ultimately, after changing the video's title several times, the production team made all videos of the show "Don-tae" private, including the problematic video.
KBS has not yet released an official statement.
