[Reporter] Recently, the official YouTube channel of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Unified Special City sparked controversy by repeatedly leaving sarcastic comments to users who criticized its policies and name.
When one user wrote, "I need to graduate quickly and escape Gwangju," the official account replied, "If that's what you think, the sooner the better."
Also, when another user criticized the name of the unified city, comparing it to a local apartment complex name, the account posted a sarcastic comment saying, "You must be great at seeing the future, all the local apartment names are in English anyway."
The controversy grew further as it was revealed that the account had also left "likes" and sarcastic emojis on some critical comments.
Online criticism poured in, pointing out that the official account was engaging in a petty dispute with citizens.
As the controversy escalated, the Unified Special City issued an official apology, stating that the comments contained the personal emotions of the person in charge, and deleted all the problematic comments.
