A man in his 60s who betrayed the goodwill of citizens has been sentenced to prison.
The Daegu District Court announced yesterday that it sentenced a man in his 60s, identified as A, to 10 months in prison on fraud charges.
He was indicted on charges of approaching passersby in Songpa-gu over a period of about five months starting in April of last year, deceiving them by claiming he left his bag on an SRT train, had no wallet or cell phone, and needed to borrow transport money to return to his home in Busan, promising to wire the money back once he arrived.
He was accused of pocketing 1.76 million won from 13 people.
Mr. A had not actually lost his cell phone or wallet.
It was also confirmed that he had no intention of repaying the money from the very beginning.
The court explained the reasoning behind the sentencing, stating that a severe punishment was inevitable given that he repeatedly committed crimes using the same method and did so during a repeat-offense probation period for similar crimes.
