A man in his 50s arrested for allegedly murdering a woman in her 50s at an officetel in Suyu-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, has tested positive in a preliminary drug screening, it has been confirmed.
The Gangbuk Police Station in Seoul announced that a preliminary drug test administered to the suspect in his 50s, identified as A, who was emergency-arrested on murder charges, came back positive for both methamphetamine and marijuana. Police have requested a detailed analysis from the National Forensic Service.
Previously, suspect A initially resisted cooperation by claiming, "I cannot urinate," but a subsequent preliminary screening confirmed positive results.
While suspect A reportedly admitted to drug use itself, he has refused to provide statements regarding the timing and location of the use.
It is also reported that he is refusing to cooperate with statements concerning the murder charge.
Earlier, police emergency-arrested suspect A on murder charges at around 1:40 AM yesterday.
Suspect A is accused of wielding a weapon against a woman in her 50s, identified as B, at an officetel in Suyu-dong, Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, resulting in her death.
Tools presumed to have been used in the crime, including a weapon and a hammer, were reportedly found at the crime scene.
Substances presumed to be marijuana and methamphetamine were also discovered among suspect A's personal belongings.
While it was determined that suspect A and victim B were not family members, police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident while keeping open the possibility of a relationship-based crime, such as dating violence.
Suspect A is also known to have a past criminal record for sex offenses.
