The joint prosecution-police investigation headquarters (led by Kim Tae-hoon, the 3rd Deputy Chief Prosecutor at the Seoul Central District Prosecutors' Office), which launched a probe to uncover the truth behind the ballot paper shortage, has booked and summoned two officials from the Songpa-gu Election Commission on charges of dereliction of duty.
The joint investigation headquarters is summoning and questioning Person A, the election coordinator at the Songpa-gu Election Commission, and Person B, the head of the 1st election division, as suspects on charges of dereliction of duty today (July 28).
Person A and the other official are accused of failing to take preventive measures despite prior circumstances indicating that a ballot paper shortage could occur at a specific polling station during the June 3 local elections.
They are also accused of ignoring requests from frontline polling stations for additional ballot papers and failing to respond immediately.
These individuals are suspects newly booked by the joint investigation headquarters after uncovering suspicions during its investigation following its launch.
Previously, the joint investigation headquarters had questioned reported election commission officials as suspects, but this marks its first time questioning suspects it directly booked.
The joint investigation headquarters has also detected and is investigating circumstances where a single ballot paper serial number was printed on two separate ballot papers at a polling station under the jurisdiction of the Songpa-gu Election Commission.
Reference interviews of two National Election Commission officials regarding suspicions surrounding former Election Commission Chairman Noh Tae-ak and others over overseas trips for sightseeing purposes are also scheduled for today.
The search and seizure of the National Election Commission servers regarding the voter turnout and other statistics manipulation scandal is also continuing.
