The Korea Meteorological Administration announced that it has tentatively determined this summer's monsoon season ended in the central region yesterday (July 26) and in the southern region the day before yesterday (July 25).
The monsoon in Jeju was seen as having ended on the 19th of last month.
Previously, the monsoon began on June 30 in Jeju and the southern region, and on July 1 in the central region.
This year's monsoon started later than usual.
The average monsoon start dates (based on the 1991–2020 average) are June 19 for Jeju, June 23 for the southern region, and June 25 for the central region.
Although this year's monsoon started late, its ending time was similar to normal years.
The average monsoon end dates are July 20 for Jeju, July 24 for the southern region, and July 26 for the central region, which are the same as or show little difference from this year's end dates.
Calculated by the start and end dates, this year's monsoon duration was 20 days for Jeju and 26 days for the southern and central regions, which were about two-thirds for Jeju and four-fifths for the other regions compared to normal years.
