A 7.3-meter-long minke whale was accidentally caught in a fishing boat's net in the waters near Bangeojin Port in Dong-gu, Ulsan.
According to the Ulsan Coast Guard on the 25th, a captain in his 60s, identified as A, discovered that the minke whale had been trapped while hauling in fishing gear at around 7:30 p.m. on the 24th in waters about 37 kilometers southeast of Bangeojin Port, and reported it to the Bangeojin Coast Guard Post.
The captured whale was a male minke whale, measuring 7.3 meters in length, 3 meters in circumference, and weighing approximately 3.2 tons.
After conducting inspections including metal detection, the Coast Guard found no evidence of illegal capture, such as marks from harpoons or spears, and issued a whale processing confirmation certificate to A.
The minke whale was sold for 71 million won at the Bangeojin Fisheries Cooperatives auction house.
