▲ Former President Yoon Suk-yeol
The Seoul Central District Court is scheduled to deliver its first-instance ruling tomorrow (the 27th) at 2:00 p.m. regarding former President Yoon Suk-yeol on charges of violating the Public Official Election Act.
Former President Yoon was indicted in December of last year on charges of making false statements during a Kwanhun Club-hosted debate on December 14, 2021, when he was a presidential candidate, to the effect that he "never introduced lawyer Lee to former Yongsan Tax Office Chief Yoon Woo-jin."
He is also accused of publicly spreading false information in January 2022 by stating that "Jeon Sung-bae, the Geonjinbeopsa, was introduced by a party official, and I have never met him together with Kim Keon-hee."
During the sentencing hearing last month, the independent counsel team led by Min Joong-ki demanded a two-year prison sentence for former President Yoon.
If former President Yoon receives a final and conclusive sentence of a fine of 1 million won or more in this case, the People Power Party will be required to return 39.7 billion won—including election expenses reimbursed during the presidential election—to the National Election Commission.
