Police and fire authorities in Namyangju, Gyeonggi Province, are searching the nearby Wangsukcheon Stream for a woman in her 70s who went missing after leaving her home at dawn, marking the seventh day of the search.
According to police and fire authorities on Wednesday, 72-year-old woman A has not returned home since leaving her residence in Dasan-dong, Namyangju, at 2:30 a.m. on July 15.
Her family reported her missing at 9 a.m. the same day after she failed to return home.
Tracing A's movements using closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage, police determined that her trail went cold near Topyeong Bridge on the Wangsukcheon Stream close to her home.
Authorities are searching the area keeping open the possibility that she may have been swept away by the current, given that the water flow in the Wangsukcheon Stream was strong at the time due to rain.
Although the search has been underway for seven days since the missing person report—mobilizing boats, drones, and rescue dogs along the sections between Topyeong Bridge and Suseok Bridge, and between Gangdong Bridge and Amsa Bridge—she has not been found as of yet.
