The cleanup of residual flames is continuing for a fourth day at the Incheon Coupang Logistics Center, where a large fire broke out and was initially brought under control.
The Incheon Fire Headquarters announced that firefighting operations are underway this morning (July 22) at the Coupang Logistics Center 32 in Seoknam-dong, Seo-gu, the site of the fire.
Although the fire that broke out on July 18 was brought under initial control at 8:00 PM on July 20—61 hours later—fire authorities remain cautious about declaring complete extinguishment.
Maintaining Response Stage 1, a flare-up alert that mobilizes the entire workforce of the jurisdiction's fire station, authorities are spraying water toward the logistics center building using aerial ladder trucks, and are also conducting water-discharge operations in the ramp section.
However, considering that residual heat and thick smoke still remain inside the logistics center, firefighters have not yet entered the 6th and 7th floors of the building where the fire originated.
Fire authorities plan to continue extinguishing operations with the goal of achieving complete extinguishment today while carefully reviewing whether it is safe to enter the site.
It has been reported that only small amounts of white smoke are leaking from the logistics center, with no signs of re-ignition.
A fire official stated, "Because the structure of the large logistics center is complex and the specific situation inside remains unclear, we will decide on entering as cautiously as possible."
The fire started at 6:54 AM on July 18 on the 6th floor of the Coupang Logistics Center 32, an 8-story building above ground with a total floor area of 299,000 square meters. There were no casualties other than two firefighters who received hospital treatment for smoke inhalation or exhaustion.
